Hjalmar Ekdal Forced to Withdraw from National Team: Gustaf Lagerbielke to Replace Him

Updated 12:35 | Posted 12:12 p.m

Hjalmar Ekdal is forced to withdraw from the national team.

He was carried out on a stretcher in Burnley’s cup match against Nottingham Forest.

Gustaf Lagerbielke replaces him in the EC qualifying squad.

– It’s sad for Hjalmar and us. I hope he has a speedy recovery, says union captain Janne Andersson.

It is the second time Gustaf Lagerbielke has been selected for the A national team. He made his debut against Iceland during the January tour this year. The centre-back recently left Elfsborg for Celtic in a deal worth around SEK 40 million.

The matches that await

The national team begins the gathering in Stockholm on Monday. On September 9, Estonia awaits away, and then Austria at the Friends Arena on September 12. Sweden is third in the qualifying group after Austria and Belgium.
