Hive Social is a microblogging social network and mobile application. The app received press coverage during Elon Musk‘s acquisition of Twitter in November 2022.[[1]​[[2]​[[3]​

Hive Social was developed by Raluca Pop, also known as Kassandra Pop, with the help of an independent developer, and the first version was released on the Apple App Store in October 2019.[[4]The application has been described as a hybrid between Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr,[[1]​ with support for text, image and video posts. Hive features a chronological timeline with no customization algorithms, [[3]​ while profiles offer a song streaming function similar to MySpace.[[5]​

On November 30, 2022, “zerforschung“, a German hacker collective, published information about serious security issues on Hive Social, including the ability to access all personal data, including private posts, private messages, shared media and even deleted direct messages. This also included private email addresses and phone numbers entered during login. Attackers could also overwrite data such as posts owned by other users. [[6]​[[7]​ In response to the release of the security report, Hive abruptly shut down its services to try to fix the vulnerabilities.[[8]​ As of December 15, 2022, Hive servers were back online. The app also came out in beta on Android devices and had a full launch on the Google Play Store.[[9]​ Some features were disabled in the 2.0.0 update after the shutdown, such as direct messages, music, and polls.[[10]​
