Occupational disadvantage violates human dignity Occupational disadvantage violates human dignity
Vienna (OTS / SK) – On the occasion of the International Zero Discrimination Day of the United Nations Program on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS) on March 1, 2021, Petra Bayr, member of the SPÖ National Council, calls on companies to make a clear commitment to the inclusion of people living with HIV or AIDS. Thanks to enormous medical advances, people with HIV can take part in social and working life without fear of infecting someone. “If the infection is recognized in good time and treated well, then it is possible to live and work like healthy people. People who live with HIV or AIDS are still discriminated against in their working life, ”criticized Petra Bayr, Chair of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. ****
“If people who are well treated with HIV and who take all precautionary measures to heart can have sex without infecting anyone, it will probably not be a problem if they sit next to me in the office,” Bayr states.
With its #positivarbeiten project, AIDS-Hilfe promotes the inclusion of people living with HIV and the signing of a declaration for non-discriminatory treatment in companies. So far a total of 72 employers from all over Austria have signed the declaration, including large companies and organizations, ministries, cities, states and parties such as the SPÖ.
“You too can create a non-discriminatory climate in your company and sign the AIDS Aid Declaration!”, Calls on Bayr to participate.
