HIV case in East Java there was an increase of 6,145 patients through October 2022. Surabaia city be the largest contributor.
East Java Health Service (Dinkes) chief Erwin Astha Triyono said the cumulative total of HIV cases was 84,959 patients.
“From the cases found, there are 23,230 patients who are currently receiving ARV therapy,” Erwin said, Friday (2/12)
Erwin acknowledged that there was a gap between the number of cases found and patients receiving ARV therapy. This is because many patients die or drop out of treatment.
“To increase access to ARV therapy, the provincial government is optimizing HIV testing service units at health centers and hospitals,” he said.
Test services have increased this year to 1,380 units. Then the number of ARV therapy services increased to 420 services through September 2022.
Meanwhile, Surabaya Health Service Chief Nanik Sukristina said the results of people living with HIV in 2022 reached 663 cases.
The male group was the most infected or 80.09% of the total cases.
“The highest number of HIV cases were found in Wonokromo, Sawahan, Tegalsari, Tambaksari, Krembangan sub-districts. Most ages ranged from 25 to 49,” he said.
Nanik revealed that a number of factors have pushed HIV cases up. The first is homosexuals 44.04%, heterosexuals 53.85%, and non-sterile drug syringe sharing behavior 2.11%.
“Early screening of at-risk groups and vulnerable groups, as well as provision of ARV treatment to break the HIV transmission chain. Provision of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Reproductive health education for prospective spouses,” she said.
