CILEGON – From January to October 2023, there were 104 cases of Cilegon City residents contracting HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, throughout 2022, 139 similar cases were found in Steel City.
“If you look at the number of positive cases in 2022, which is 139, in 2023 until October there will be 104 cases,” said Febri Naldo, Head of the Individual and Community Health Efforts Division at the Cilegon City Health Office, in his official statement, written Saturday, 2 December 2023.
The Cilegon City Health Office continues to strive to reduce the number of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome or better known as HIV/AIDS.
Moreover, HIV/AIDS sufferers in Cilegon City are of productive age and are relatively young. Age ranges from 29 years to 45 years.
“Hopefully there won’t be (any) additional cases. The (Cilegon) Health Office continues to screen those at high risk of HIV cases,” he explained.
HIV is a dangerous virus that damages the immune system, so sufferers of this virus are vulnerable to disease. If this viral infection is not treated immediately, it will continue to become more serious.
The Cilegon City Health Office continues to strive to strengthen preventive measures, especially through health cadres at Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) and hospitals, such as through educational measures and increasing knowledge on how to avoid and overcome the spread of HIV/AIDS.
“Every Community Health Center has opened HIV services as well as hospitals at RSUD and RSKM. We know that HIV is one of the SPM (Minimum Service Standards),” he explained.
