Hits from old Vienna – cute and swaying in Bruck

Under the title “Schnucki, ach Schnucki – operetta and more”, the coloratura soprano Elisabeth Jahrmann and baritone Michael Weiland invite you to a scenic music evening at the Stadttheater on Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m. The title of the program is a hit by the Viennese piano humorist Hermann Leopoldi.

Leopoldi, who became one of the most popular song composers and performing artists in Vienna at the beginning of the last century, was imprisoned in the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps after failed attempts to escape from the Nazi regime – with operetta author and actor Fritz Grünwald, among others. His family, who had already emigrated to the USA, managed to buy Leopoldi’s freedom. With his partner Helly Möslein, he also conquered the audience in the New World, for example by turning his “little café in Hernals” into “A Little Café Down the Street”.

In the first part of the evening, Jahrmann and Weiland present Leopoldi evergreens such as “Schön ist such ein Ringelspiel”, “Powidltatschkerln” or “Schnucki, ach Schnucki” in a humorous and costume-rich manner.

Those who prefer dreamy nostalgia in mind will get their money’s worth in the second part of the evening. With “Your is my whole heart” or “Vienna, Vienna only you alone” there is balm for the heart of the operetta lover – swaying and humming along included. Tickets are available in advance for 25 euros at 0660/5033582. Box office: 28 euros.
