Ski clothes are usually not very flattering. But several luxury brands – from Dior to Chanel – now offer a solution for this. They ensure that you can hit the slopes warm and elegant. Although there is of course a price tag attached to it, which the houses do not always want to reveal.
Figures show that around 730,000 Belgians go on a skiing holiday every year. The only disadvantage to exercising in the snow: you have to prepare and dress for the cold temperatures. But those thick coats, thermal stockings and other winter accessories don’t always look chic, on the contrary.
Sports and regular clothing
Unless you like to spend a lot of money on it. Because a striking number of luxury brands are releasing a special ski collection this year. The fact that the boundaries between sportswear and regular clothing are becoming increasingly blurred must have something to do with it.
Exhibit A: Last summer it was cool to wear ski goggles. The very expensive models from Prada, among others, flew out the door. And it goes further than that, just think of Moonboots, designed for the slopes, which have been trendy on the streets again in recent years. Puffer coats, initially designed to keep you nice and warm, have also been a fashion statement for years rather than a garment for practical purposes. It is therefore no wonder that (luxury) brands focus on sports collections. Nowadays the items can be worn almost all year round.

There is the DiorAlps capsule line that draws inspiration from the brand’s latest fashion shows. The collection includes puffer jackets, body warmers, sneakers and après-ski boots. Who knew ski pants could look so elegant? Or that ski jackets could be trendy, stylish and warm at the same time?
The collection was clearly designed with both current trends and the needs of winter sports in mind. But you do pay for that. For example, the cheapest items, a beanie and gloves with the Christian Dior logo, will cost you 520 euros. At the other end of the spectrum is a ski jacket that you can also wear inside out. You pay 5,500 euros for that. Our favorite? The items with the white gold baroque pattern and the ski boots with a map of Paris.

If you want to go all out, you can also buy a snowboard and full ski suit from the luxury brand, designed in collaboration with painter Peter Doig. Although those price tags already make us dizzy.

Dior is not the only French luxury house to jump on the bandwagon. Rival Louis Vuitton is also investing in high-quality but elegant clothing for the slopes. And more than stylish enough to wear in other contexts. The brand managed to make thermal dresses and turtlenecks, ski goggles and wonderfully warm headwear chic.
The very extensive collection consists of ski suits in sets, winter accessories such as scarves and gloves, solid sports bags, mountain and ski boots. And we would love to continue wearing them after our skiing holiday.

Unfortunately, we cannot give you price tags, because according to the website they are only available on request. But let’s assume they’re not within the budget of most mortals. Oh well, you can always dream, right?

Of course, Chanel cannot lag behind. Her Coco Neige collection combines the class we know from the brand with the necessary technical details, without neglecting its timeless image. In contrast to Dior and Louis Vuitton, the pieces in this collection are more feminine and look less sporty, without sacrificing quality and functionality, of course.
And there are not only neutral, subdued shades but also bright pink, camel brown and even yellow colors in the collection. The collection, on the other hand, screams ‘skier’, but we don’t care.
The prices are again unknown. You cannot even order the items on the website, but only in physical stores. But the images make us swoon. If you ask us, this collection stands head and shoulders above the rest.
You can view the collection here to look at.
