The Government of Mexico City announced this Friday that there has been a “slight” increase in COVID-19 cases that is observed mainly in two groups: millennials and people aged 40 to 49 years.

The daily average of positive cases in inhabitants of Mexico City, according to official data, increased from 240 to 631 between May 24 and June 22.

“What there is is a slight increase in cases and particularly it is among people between 30 to 49 years old, that is the age group where the number of people who are positive for COVID is increasing,” he said. Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government of the capital, at a press conference.

Meanwhile, the groups with high mortality and hospitalizations (50 and over) remain stable and at minimal levels of cases.

On the other hand, Eduardo Clark, General Director of Digital Government of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation of CDMX, explained that the groups with high mortality and hospitalizations due to the coronavirus remain stable and at minimum levels of cases.

“In the groups with the greatest increase, we do not see a necessarily large increase in hospitalizations. Neither in 18 to 30, nor in 30 to 39 years, ”he said.

This responds to the application of the vaccine.

The authorities called on this sector of the population to maintain protection measures against the virus despite not representing a risk when contagious.
