On the night of January 18 to 19, around midnight, a Renault vehicle arrived at very high speed on the road from Lorient to Rennes, at a traffic light showing red. The vehicle did not slow down, even though at the same time a cyclist was crossing the road. The extremely violent collision led to the death of the cyclist, a 53-year-old man.
Alcohol and drugs
The motorist fled. The vehicle was “found empty of any occupants 200 meters away”, specified the Rennes public prosecutor’s office this Friday. The front of the car was completely destroyed. The Pacé gendarmerie brigade, supported by the Rennes Psig and a dog handler, was immediately mobilized to the accident. A suspect was arrested at 2:40 a.m. and taken into police custody, as revealed by our colleagues of Western France.
Aged 20, he could be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter by the driver of a land motor vehicle and hit and run, driving a vehicle without a license, and driving a vehicle while using substances or plants classified as narcotics and under the influence of an alcoholic state.
