In a previous article, the association Culture and heritage in the Pays d’Ouche (CPPO) presented to you the Van Loyen dairy situated at La Foucardière at Saint Ouen sur Iton (Orne). Mr. Van Loyen – Father started the production of cheeses from ” Domaine de la Croix Rouge »From 1906.
In this photograph dating from this period, taken by the photographer Eugene Pasquis pose Suzanne Veron in front of boxes of camemberts made by this cheese factory. For the record, Suzanne Véron was the daughter of a seedmaker from Merlerault and served as a model, which we often find dressed in Normande on postcards, sometimes even in the company of Maurice Pasquis, son of the photographer. She was also his little cousin.
From rue St-Jean to rue de Bec-Ham
![Over the years, the Red Cross creamery has moved from rue Saint-Jean to rue de Bec-Ham](https://i0.wp.com/static.actu.fr/uploads/2021/06/25351-210602165419215-0.jpg?resize=900%2C569&ssl=1)
In 1911, a creamery in the name of the Red Cross opened rue Saint-Jean in The Eagle (Orne) (today at 22 rue Romain Darchy), run by Jean Gallic and his wife Marie yvonne lucas, both natives of Brittany and married to Plerneuf in 1908. This creamery disappeared at this address after the 14/18 war, but it was then found under the same name rue de Bec Ham at the location of the current Press House. It is first held by Alphonse Guet (1921), then Pierre Fricheux (1926 and 1931) and finally by Madame widow Lacour (1936)*.
We do not know if this lady continued her activity under the Occupation. On June 7, 1944, the business was completely destroyed by the bombardment, Madame Lacour was not one of the victims.
As for the Gallic family, the couple’s daughter did not quit the job, marrying Maurice Henri Léon Martin Dequidt, an important cheese maker in the Rugles (Eure), whose products were sold in particular on the L’Aigle market.
