History of palm oil thieves shot dead by police officers in West Bangka

Beni (48), a resident of Tunggang Village, Central District, West Bangka (Babar) Regency, was killed by the police when he was caught stealing palm oil fruits. The police released the history of the victims who were killed.

The incident took place on Sunday (24/11), at 16.00 WIB, in the oil palm plantation area of ​​PT Bumi Permai Lestari (BPL) Babar. This case started with a report from the company which said that their plantations were often robbed of oil palm fruit nuts.

“(True) so this incident happened on Sunday (24/11) at 16.00 WIB at PT. BPL Bangka Barat. According to information from PT BPL, incidents of palm oil fruit theft also happen frequently in the area that,” said the Chief. Babel Police Commissioner, Fauzan Sukmawansyah, told reporters, Monday (25/11/2024).

Fauzan explained the history of the incidents related to the theft of palm oil fruits. He said, it started when security personnel received information about the theft of palm oil fruits in block X12 Division 1 Ledong West Selatan.

Regional Police Babel Satbrimob, who were performing security duties (Pam) along with PT BPL Assistants, came to the place at that time. The team then arrested 5 people suspected of stealing oil palm fruits.

“Seeing the presence of workers and workers, the perpetrators tried to escape. Therefore, both PT BPL workers and workers have appealed (not to run away),” he said.

It turned out, following Fauzan, that the suspected perpetrators of the robbery did not pay attention to the team’s warnings and continued to try to run away. Police eventually fired warning shots 12 times.

“It (the appeal) went unheeded until finally security personnel fired 12 warning shots at the perpetrators,” he continued.

As a result, one of the five perpetrators named Beni (48), a resident of Kelapa District, was successfully paralyzed.

“After paralyzing, officials and employees of PT BPL tried to investigate the condition of the perpetrator. When the perpetrator’s condition was discovered, medical measures were taken to call a vehicle to immediately evacuate the perpetrator to the nearest health center,” he explained.

Long story short, when the victim arrived at the Community Health Center, he received immediate medical attention. However, the victim’s life could not be saved and he was finally declared dead.

Fauzan said, security personnel who acted forcefully were detained for further investigation. Until now, the police are still investigating the case of the shooting.

“Earlier, the Regional Police Chief had taken this matter directly to his attention so that this matter could be followed up immediately and further investigations could be carried out,” he concluded.

The news that a resident of Kelapa was killed by a police officer surprised the people of the town. After death, the body of the victim was given to the family and buried today at the local town TPU.
