SPACE – On January 23, 1942, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) established the Aircraft Engine Laboratory. The laboratory was soon renamed the Lewis Research Center after NASA was formed in 1958.
The name was changed again in 1999 to the Glenn Research Center. The facility is named after John Glenn, an astronaut who became the first American to orbit Earth.
The research center is located near Cleveland, Ohio. It is used as a laboratory to develop new technologies for aircraft engines and spacecraft propulsion systems. Source: Space.com
