History of Anti-Immigrant Riots in England, Refugee Hotel Burned Down




Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Protests against immigrants are heating up in the UK. The violence began when right-wing rioters tried to burn down a hotel where asylum seekers were staying on Sunday.

Statement The Keeper announced on Monday (5/8/2024), saying around 700 people gathered outside the Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham, before speaking to police.

Some rioters threw pieces of wood, bottles and chairs, and fired incendiary devices at police officers.

South Yorkshire Police said at least 10 officers were injured, including one who was unconscious due to a head injury. An experienced police officer in South Yorkshire said it was the worst riot he had ever seen.

Pictures from the scene showed burning rubbish bins and protesters, some of them wearing St George’s and union flags. They shouted: “Get them out” and tried to storm into the hotel.

The protest at the Holiday Inn Express first started at midday and turned violent when a crowd of right-wing people, mostly men, broke windows and set fire to the building’s stairs, which ‘ get over the police.

The Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, condemned the riots. “The criminal and violent attack on a hotel where asylum seekers were staying in Rotherham was truly appalling. Setting fire to a building where people were known to be inside,” he said.

“South Yorkshire Police has the full support of the government to take strong action against those responsible,” he said.

As well as Rotherham, protests are planned for Sunday in Bolton, Lancaster, Weymouth and Middlesbrough. More than 300 protestors marched through the city center and chanted: “We want our country back”.

Rioters in Middlesbrough threw bricks, cans and pots at police, and pushed burning bins into a line of winged officers, leaving streets littered with smoking litter.

One group walked through a residential area breaking windows of houses and cars. When a resident was asked why they had broken a window, one of them replied “because we are British”, the news agency reported. PA.

Cleveland police said several arrests have been made since the protest began around 2 p.m. “The public is asked to avoid the area,” the statement on social media said.

Elsewhere, Merseyside Police introduced two section 60 orders giving officers more powers to stop and search criminals covering Liverpool and Southport. Orders are placed at 2pm on Sunday and will remain active for a 12 hour period.

Greater Manchester Police said section 60 and section 60AA orders were issued across Bolton until 10pm on Sunday, following the initial distribution notice of section 34 Section 60AA requires people to wear face coverings that have been used to cover or conceal their appearance.

The Anti-Immigration Demonstration Begins

Riots and chaos followed the murder of three teenage girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport last Monday.

Axel Rudakubana (17) from Lancashire was charged with the attack, but false allegations spread online that he was an asylum seeker who had come to the UK on a suspect boat.

As a result, right-wing activists gathered in cities and towns across the country. They targeted asylum seekers, leading to riots.
