His name means “Army of Glory » in Old High German.
After the death of Clovis on 27 November 511, the Frankish kingdom was divided between Clotaire and his three brothers: Thierry IandClodomiro and Childebert Iand. Due to the right of the mother (maternity rights), it is attributed to the various queens, for their children, a portion of the kingdom taken “equal balance”. Clovis having had two wives, the kingdom was first divided in two. The eldest, Thierry, son of his first wife, is much favored by receiving the kingdom of Reims. Clotaire shares the second half with the other two brothers. Clotaire receives the northern part, Childebert the central part (kingdom of Paris) and Clodomir the southern part (kingdom of Orléans). The kingdom of Clotaire is formed by two parts, one in Belgian Gaul, corresponding to the kingdom of the Salian Franks, where he established his capital in Soissons and which includes the dioceses of Amiens, Arras, Saint-Quentin and Tournai, the other in Aquitaine Gaul comprising the dioceses of Agen, Bazas and Périgueux.

He was a prominent designer from 1929 at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) in Moscow, where more than one hundred aircraft (the Tupolevs) were designed, including bombers (including the Tupolev Tu-26 or Tupolev Tu-2) and airliners such as the Tu-134 and Tu-154.
