In 1980, the Flemish government set up the GIMV – in full the “Regional Investment Company for Flanders” – with the aim of helping promising companies in Flanders grow.
In 1997, the government company went public and privatization began, today most shares are publicly distributed. The Flemish Participation Company (VPM) currently manages the remaining government share of 27.65 percent.
