Historic building demolished in Kiev

Criminal proceedings have begun on the fact of unauthorized dismantling of a building on Simon Petlyura Street in the Shevchenko district of the capital.

In the center of Kiev, a historic building was demolished – Utkin’s Apartment House, on the fact of the unauthorized dismantling of the house, the capital’s prosecutor’s office began criminal proceedings.

The activists of the Public Association Mapa Renovatsii reported on Facebook that the house was being demolished. According to them, they want to build an apartment complex in its place.

Law enforcers, in turn, noted that after the appeal of a public organization, criminal proceedings were initiated on the fact of unauthorized dismantling of a building on Simon Petlyura Street in the Shevchenko district of the capital. On April 10, information about this fact was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on the grounds of a criminal offense under Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (arbitrariness).

Police officers, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, examined the scene of the incident, interrogated eyewitnesses and demanded permits for the construction work.

Utkin’s tenement house is a historical pre-revolutionary building in the center of Kiev, located near the railway station. It was built by the architect Alexander Verbitsky. The two-storey estate was located on the banks of the Lybed River.

According to activist Ilya Sokolov, the dismantling of the historic building began on the night of March 20. The building was in good condition before the destruction began.

Local historian Anton Korob stated that the territory on which the house is located is included in the historical development area of ​​Kiev in accordance with the historical reference plan of the city.

The Chmarochos publication reports that the development company Zim Group plans to build a 26-storey Times apartment hotel with 352 rooms on the site of the two-story building.
