According to Fedepalma, this record is the result of the good productivities recorded in both fruit and oil, especially the OXG hybrid material, better fertilization practices once oil prices began to improve in 2020 and a greater and better distribution of rainfall in the different palm regions of the country.

Destination of production by markets

In 2022, total palm oil sales totaled 1,780,000 tons, 78 thousand tons more than the previous year, representing a growth of 4.6%.

When disaggregating total sales, 74% of sales were directed to the local market and the remaining 26% to the export market.

In absolute terms, local sales of palm oil reached 1.3 million tons, with growth of 8.6% compared to 2021.

Regarding the classification of local sales by segments, 46.6% went to the segment of traditional companies, while 43.6% and 9.8% were destined for the biodiesel and concentrated food industry and other industrial , respectively.

For its part, the export market was the destination of 466 thousand tons, which shows a decrease of 4.6% at the end of the year.

Finally, it is estimated that the consumption of palm oil in Colombia grew 7.3% and reached a figure of 1.46 million tons in 2022, being the vegetable oil with the highest consumption in our country and sufficiently meeting the national demand in multiple edible and inedible uses.
