Sad news mourned this weekend for the soccer team. The former player and former coach of Serbia, Ilija Petkovic, died this Saturday at the age of 74 in Belgrade as a result of complications derived from the COVID-19 coronavirus that he had contracted.

As a player, Petkovic played for OFK Belgrade and Troyes and was 43 times international with the Yugoslav team between 1968 and 1974, playing in the 1974 World Cup.
At OFK Belgrade he began his career as a coach in 1990; He was assistant coach of the Yugoslavia team, and coached Serbia twice: in 2000-01, after Vujadin Boskov’s departure after Euro 2000, and in 2003-06, when he led Serbia and Montenegro to the World Cup in Germany 2006.
