The Plenary Session of the Ferreras de Abajo City Council has become the scene of a historic and tense moment this morning, with the current mayor leaving the plenary session before the reading of the conviction for the previous mayor and councilors of the Popular Party . The sentence, which declares the socialist councilors ‘persona non grata’, has been read before the plenary session and published on the notice boards, as dictated by the court ruling, in an effort to restore the honor of the PSOE councilors and mitigate the damage caused.
In support of the socialist councilors of Ferreras de Abajo, the general vice-secretary of the PSOE of Zamora, Inmaculada García Rioja, and the socialist provincial deputy, Ángel Calleja, have participated in the plenary session to condemn the harassment and persecution by the Popular Party .
Both have shown their astonishment at the reaction of the PP mayor, trying to avoid by all means the reading of the most relevant aspects of the sentence, those that recognize that the actions of the Popular Party mayor’s office have been “constantly one of persecution and harassment, both in the sphere of municipal life and in their private life, against socialist councilors in the exercise of their functions as legitimate representatives of citizens.
However, the atmosphere in the plenary session became tense when the popular mayor left the room amidst boos, refusing to apologize to the socialist councilors and read the sentence. In his absence, Elías Santamaría, spokesperson for the PSOE, took the floor to read the full sentence and highlight the seriousness of the PP’s actions in the Ferreras de Abajo City Council.
The Sentence requires compliance with that dated July 22, 2020 on the previous one of the Contentious Administrative Court No. of Zamora No. 00083/2020 of April 20, 2020 by which the contentious appeal filed by the procedural representation of the Councilors of the PSOE in the City Council of Ferreras de Abajo Eusebio Pazos Rodríguez, Eutiquio Ubierna Santamaría, Ángel Vara Diego and, on their behalf, José María Diego Lorenzo, against the resolution of the City Council of Ferreras de Abajo adopted by the Plenary Session of the Corporation dated 4 June 2018 that declared the aforementioned councilors persona non grata, “declaring it null and void and revoking it, and rendering it void.”
This event marks a milestone in the fight for justice and dignity in Ferreras de Abajo, reflecting the commitment of the PSOE and the determination to put an end to political harassment and unjust persecution.
