Britain’s royal family celebrated its first lesbian wedding after the great-great-granddaughter of King George V tied the knot with her Australian girlfriend in a fun-filled outdoor ceremony in New South Wales, Australia.

Aristocrat Ellen Lascelles, 39, made history by marrying Chantelle McPherson, known as ‘Chan’, in a ceremony held in the Byron Bay Hinterland this week.
Ellen, who is the niece of David Lascelles, 8th and current Earl of Herewood, whose godmother is the late Queen Elizabeth herself, exchanged vows with her partner and sealed their union with a kiss in front of a hand-made festive poster reading ‘Here come the brides’, wrote Daily Mail.
The newlyweds, who live in Australia and are already happily married, have several children from previous relationships. Ellen has a son, Jack, and a daughter, Penny, from her Australian ex-boyfriend, while Chan, who owns a design company, has a daughter named Raf.
When Ellen’s grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Harewood, married, the reception was at St. James’s Palace and was attended by George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth.
Ellen Lascelles, however, chose a rather different wedding, outdoors in the so-called the Australian gem that boasts rolling green hills, stunning views, lush rainforest and waterfalls.
“Chantel and I were surrounded by almost all of our favorite people in the world and had the funnest, hottest, most love-filled day I could ever imagine,” Ellen quoted the publication as saying.
Ahead of the landmark wedding, Ellen happily shared with friends about their engagement, posting the news on social media, notes Hola.
However, this is not the first same-sex marriage in the royal family, lifestyle.bg points out. The first gay wedding was performed by Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a great-nephew of Lord Mountbatten, who married James Coyle, director of cabin services for a Glaswegian airline.
