Historic old town of Minden is digitized for innovative 3D project

On August 28, some Minden residents may have spotted an airplane over our city, and in the coming days of September another special vehicle may be noticed. There is an exciting background to this: Minden’s historic old town is currently being driven over and flown over by a specialized company as part of an innovative 3D project.

In the inter-municipal project “Smart, 3D and historical”, the six municipalities of the regional group “Historic Town and Village Centers OWL” – Brakel, Minden, Lemgo, Detmold, Rietberg and Rheda-Wiedenbrück – have joined forces to test the digital modeling of their inner cities with different, locally specific objectives.

Extensive image material is being created using the latest technology, making it possible to experience Minden digitally. Interested parties can already get a first impression on the website owl-in-3d.de. Now the project is going a step further: the views of our city are being expanded to include high-resolution textures, so that the cathedral, the theater, the town hall and many other historic buildings shine in all their splendor and detail.

“Look forward to experiencing Minden in an impressive, virtual form soon. Stay tuned and visit owl-in-3d.de regularly for updates,” emphasizes Dieter Bommel from the urban renewal and monument protection department of the city of Minden.
