Historic line, closes for two months

Trenitalia’s service charter for the Campania region leaves no room for hesitation: new inconveniences on the horizon for commuters, tourists and occasional travelers who use trains along the historic Naples-Salerno line. An interruption is scheduled between Napoli San Giovanni Barra and Lower Nocera. Works necessary for the modernization of the section and which, at the time of validation of the calendar, could not take into account the forced stop caused by the landslide between Vietri sul Mare and Salerno. In fact, we read on page 15 of the document drawn up by the regional management of Campania, from July 4th to September 1st there will be an interruption on the Historic Line Naples SG Barra – Torre Annunziata – Nocera Inferiore section.

A necessary stop for the realization «of interventions functional to the strengthening of the railway network, also foreseen through the investments of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan». The works, we read in the Trenitalia service charter, «sThey have been programmed by the Infrastructure Manager» railway. Two months of stops and inconveniences which add to those already served since last January 20th due to the suspension of railway traffic between the Nocera Inferiore and Salerno stations along the historic line, with Nocera Superiore, Cava de’ Tirreni and Vietri sul Mare cut off from the railway service. A problem seen with apprehension by travellers, especially commuters. But the repercussions on tourists are likely to be no less significant.

Insiders exclude the possibility of an overlap between the two interruptions. Much will depend on the TAR’s ruling on the request for suspension presented by the owners of the property overlooking the landslide, which the Municipality of Salerno has ordered to be made safe. The college will meet on April 23. The outcome of the hearing will provide more precise indications on the restoration works and, therefore, whether the Nocera Inferiore-Salerno section of the historic line will be unblocked before the interruption scheduled for the period 4 July 1 September. Meanwhile, there is the political reaction of two municipal councilors of the Fratelli d’Italia of Nocera Inferiore, Giuseppe Odoroso e Rosa Giordano, who announced their participation in the protest demonstration to ask for a rapid reopening of the route: «We are surprised, once again in a negative way, by the Campania Region in managing a problem of this magnitude».
