Historic home rolls through San Francisco’s hilly streets | Abroad

The massive 1882 gray / green six-bedroom house was loaded onto giant semi-trailers to move it six blocks through Golden Gate City. The special move from Franklin Street to Fulton Street resulted in special images shown by news channel ABC7, reports the New York Post, among others.

Spectators lined the route to watch the special procession. For the first part of the journey, movers had to navigate one of the city’s infamous hills with the colossus.

“It’s always difficult for a house,” said mover Phil Joy. Joy had to arrange permits at some 15 boroughs to move the property, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The owner had to cough up some $ 400,000 in relocation costs to move the historic property.

To make room for the rolling house, parking meters had to be temporarily removed, tree branches pruned and traffic signs moved.

At the old location, the house was estimated at about $ 5 million, according to Zillow (a kind of Funda). An apartment complex with some sixty apartments will soon be built on the now vacant site.
