As of today, the state capital Dresden and the Saxon Ministry of Finance are switching the lighting of the historically significant buildings in Dresden back on. From dusk until one o’clock in the morning, the Semperoper, the Katholische Hofkirche, the Johanneum, the Albertinum, the Brühlsche Terrasse, the Residenzschloss and the Hausmannsturm are illuminated again.
“Dresden’s city silhouette is world-famous and attracts countless tourists every year. I am pleased that the Free State of Saxony, especially Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann, and the city are pursuing the same goal here and that this unique sight can now be enjoyed again in the evening hours. I I’m sure that not only our guests, but also many Dresdeners will be pleased. The topic of saving energy remains on our agenda, but modern lighting systems are not power guzzlers,” says Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert.
Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann adds: “I am very pleased that we have succeeded in finding a solution together with the state capital Dresden. A not inconsiderable part of the building lighting has already been converted to LED technology. Accordingly, it no longer seems justified to do so to leave the ensemble of the silhouette of the old town that is significant in terms of cultural history and tourism completely unlit.”
background
In the course of the energy crisis, the lighting in public buildings was switched off on the basis of the federal ordinance for securing the energy supply via short-term effective measures. On the one hand, this was aimed at saving energy costs and CO2 emissions. On the other hand, the state capital of Dresden and the Free State of Saxony also lived up to their exemplary role. The corresponding ordinance expired on April 15, 2023. For the complex lighting technology of the public buildings of the Free State, extensive switching has been carried out in the last few days, which now allows the state capital Dresden to shine in the evening lights again from today.
