Historic 100m final! Saint Lucia celebrates

On Saturday, the Olympic sprint competition was decided. Unfortunately, in the grand finale we did not see Ewa Swoboda, who presented herself well in the semi-final, but was missing… one hundredth of a second to advance.

In the semi-finals, the fastest time was achieved by Saint Lucia representative Julien Alfred. And as it turned out, it was no coincidence.

In the rainy finale, the Saint Lucia representative showed even greater possibilities than a dozen or so minutes earlier. Alfred finished the race with a huge advantage, achieving a time of 10.72, which is a new national record.

Importantly, this is Saint Lucia’s first Olympic medal in history. A gold medal at that. The country, home to just over 150,000 people, will certainly be celebrating for a long time.

Silver and bronze for the Americans – Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson, respectively.

The triple jump final was also held on Saturday. Thea LaFond of Dominica won gold (15.02 m), the first ever Olympic gold medal for that country. Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica was second (14.87 m), and Jasmine Moore of the USA was third (14.67 m).
