Historian Anhar Gonggong confirms the speech of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri who mentioned that his father, President Sukarno, was removed after 1965 tempest.
Megawati revealed the story about her father who was deposed when giving an oration after the awarding of an honorary professor title with the status of a Non-Permanent Professor by the Defense University (IDU) on Friday (11/6).
After Sukarno stepped down, Mega said his life had changed drastically. He who grew up in the palace environment then lived a life like a commoner. Mega has even participated in special research (Litsus), the policy of the New Order to capture people who are indicated to be related to communism.
“I grew up in the palace. Due to the political events of 1965 I could not continue my education. And of course because my father was ousted, I lived as a commoner,” said Megawati.
According to Anhar, Sukarno was deposed by people who did not like the concepts of nationalism, religion, and communism that the RI proclaimer promoted.
“If he only said that he was removed, it was true, it was Prabowo’s father-in-law (Soeharto) who removed him,” Anhar said when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (11/6).
Anhar said that when he became president, not everyone agreed with the government system run by Bung Karno.
Moreover, he said, when the proclaimer of independence sparked the idea of a political concept of Nationalism, Religion, and Communism (Nasakom).
“So the people who are anti-Nasakom, the Communists are against it. Later, the G30S/PKI incident happened,” he said.
The G30S incident refers to the murder of a number of high-ranking military officers in Indonesia in 1965. While Sukarno stepped down in 1967. This incident was later linked to the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) movement.
According to Anhar, the G30S/PKI incident was a process leading to efforts to overthrow Sukarno.
He said, at that time, the removal was carried out in various ways. One of them is through the mechanism of the Provisional People’s Consultative Assembly (MPRS).
“Keep trying through the MPRS which was formed by Bung Karno himself. After Bung Karno wanted to be ousted, members of the MPR, DPR, such as the PKI, PNI, were all replaced with supporters of Suharto. So it was true that he was removed,” he said.
