A new poll reveals that the majority of potential Latino voters in eight key states for the upcoming 2022 Senate elections reject Democratic Party policies such as open borders and social benefits for immigrants.
The National Senate Republican Committee (NRSC) conducted a survey (pdf) in late April targeting Latino voters from the swing states of the United States — Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Ohio — for the 2022 Senate elections.
The study, published May 28, included 1,200 potential Hispanic voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.82 percent.
The poll found that Latino voters widely reject the Democratic agenda, such as wasteful spending, open borders, and elimination of voting requirements.
63 percent of Hispanics value capitalism above socialism because “it gives people the freedom to work and reach their potential.” Of this percentage, 74 percent are South American; 73 percent are Cuban; and 61 percent Puerto Rican.
On the other hand, more than half of voters (69 percent) oppose illegal immigrants receiving the same welfare and unemployment benefits as Americans.
Likewise, 72 percent believe it is necessary to control the wave of immigrants crossing the US border illegally; and 83 percent are against illegals voting in state and federal elections.
In addition, according to the poll, Latinos believe that Democrats believe that minorities agree with them no matter how far-fetched and leftist Democrats become.
Regarding the loss of traditional values and belief in God, faith, family and freedom, especially in young people, 67% of those surveyed said they agreed with this statement.
After seeing the results of the poll, Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott said Hispanics are moving further away from the Democratic Party.
“The reasons could not be clearer: Republicans promote capitalism, individual liberties, a secure border, and a smaller government. Hispanic voters want the freedom and opportunity that Republican policies provide ”, He said Scott in a press release.
“Hispanic voters are turning Republican thanks to our agenda,” he added.
In the upcoming elections in November 2022, 34 of the 100 Senate seats will be up for grabs.
According to a may report, Hispanic registration and voting rates during the November 2020 elections increased to historic levels.
In the report “Latino Voter Registration and Participation Rates in the 2020 Presidential Elections” published by the Graduate Center of the Center for Latin American Caribbean and Latino Studies (CLACLS) of the City University of New York (CUNY), the registration figures they increased to 61 percent, and the voting figures to 53.7 percent.
More than 18 million Hispanics voted in the last presidential election, compared to the more than 15 million who voted in 2016, representing an increase of about 30 percent.
According to the report, Hispanic voters accounted for 10.2 percent of the total votes in the 2020 elections.
