Hispanic Woman Arrested for Allegedly Abandoning Baby in Yonkers: Jaqueline Marleni Pérez Charged with Child Abandonment

A 21-year-old Hispanic woman was arrested for allegedly abandoning a baby outside a home in Yonkers.

According to the authorities, Jaqueline Marleni Pérez, originally from Guatemala, gave birth by her own means last Tuesday.

Hours later, the woman would have abandoned the minor outside a home at number 32 Chestnut Street.

The girl was found by a woman who wrapped him in a blanket and called the authorities who took him to a hospital.

The baby was reported as stable.

A surveillance camera and witnesses would have confirmed that Pérez would be responsible.

However, her friend and roommate does not believe that the young woman is the baby’s mother.

He added that Jaqueline had arrived in the City a month ago.

“What they told me is that Jacqueline went out to buy something and found the baby there, then she notified a man and the man told the neighbor and the neighbor spoke to the police,” said the woman who did not identify herself.

“She says she was scared, she felt nervous because of the questions they had asked her,” he added.

New York State law allows parents to legally abandon a child up to 30 days after birth without retaliation.

However, the minor has to be left in a safe place such as some fire stations, hospitals or places inside police stations.

Pérez was charged with child abandonment.
