Lisbeth Acosta moved from New Jersey to The Bronx to run away from his ex abusive. He even obtained an order of protection against him. But that did not save her from the wrath of a former partner.

Now the 20-year-old mother fights for her life at St. Barnabas Hospital with several stabs on her neck and jaw. She had been living in that Bronx building for a few months, where she arrived from her home in Paterson, fleeing the abuse of the father of her two-year-old daughter, identified as Hector de LaCruz, 27.

De LaCruz allegedly ambushed Lisbeth in the lobby of her new house at 9:15 p.m. Friday, cutting it repeatedly with a machete.

He thought that by having a daughter, things would improve, but that was not the case, his father said. The couple separated because he mistreated her.
