A Hispanic mother who lives in an immigrant shelter reported that her daughter has been a victim of bullying by some classmates at her high school in Queens.
Odelys Amaya is the mother of a 13-year-old girl who was the victim of a beating by her schoolmates on board an MTA bus that serves as school transportation.
The attack, which occurred on January 8, was captured on video and has been shared on social networks.
“They wanted to take her phone away and as it appears in the video they told her, damn white, get out of this country, what are you doing here, you dirty bitch,” Odelys denounced.
In the video you can see how the students repeatedly hit her and insulted her while others talk about how to capture the best angle of the attack with their phone.
The minor goes to MS 226 school located in the Rockaway area of Queens.
After filing a complaint, the school authorities sought conciliation and promised that there would be no more attacks.
However, at the end of the meeting with the parents, the affected person assured that the alleged aggressors continued laughing about what happened.
“They promised me that nothing was going to happen, that I should be calm, and when they passed in front of us, the girl was dancing and laughing and the mother was talking on the phone, laughing a lot,” said Amaya.
Separately, the Department of Education assured that they took the corresponding actions to address the problem.
“The safety of students is our priority. We immediately took steps to investigate the incident and to ensure that the student receives the support she needs. Bullying has no place in our school communities,” they said in a statement attributed to Jenna Lyle, spokesperson for the department.

A member of the Chabad community alleged that the tunnel was initially built by “extremist students,” but then Mexican migrants were hired to continue the work, clandestinely.

After an extensive investigation inside the tunnel, the DOB determined that it is 60 feet long and 8 feet wide, as well as 5 feet high. It also connects with four other buildings, two of which had to be evacuated for safety.

So far, it is not clear when construction of the tunnel began or what the intentions of the “extremist students” were. The Chabad member who offered statements said that these students had been renegades from the synagogue.
