ATLANTA, Georgia (Telemundo Atlanta) – A Hispanic man facing extortion charges was transferred from Texas to the Hall County Jail, authorities reported Monday.
According to the police report, the man was identified as Armando Eligio Villarreal, 54, and faces four counts of robbery by extortion and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Authorities said the man’s arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office since 2023.
Agents involved in the investigation obtained arrest warrants against Villarreal on July 14, 2023.
According to the initial investigation, the man extorted four victims and collected approximately $120,000 in cash, between March 2020 and June 2023.
Villarreal used the pretext of helping the victims with immigration matters. His wife Olga Beatrice Villarreal, 52, was also involved and helped by threatening the victims with deportation, police said.
Olga Beatrice Villarreal was arrested last year and released on bail.
