New York City may have a reputation for being a harsh and ruthless place, but every now and then a story emerges that restores faith in humanity among New Yorkers.
A man from Honduras lost his wallet Wednesday morning while walking through the always busy and tourist-filled Times Square.
The wallet belonged to Eduardo Martinez, who told NBC 4 that he dropped it on his way to work near Broadway and West 49th Street.
In addition to standard wallet items, there was $4,000 in cash when Martinez said he lost it.
He later returned to the area and frantically searched for the missing wallet, when two officers spotted him and approached. A woman had given them a wallet that she said she found while she was also commuting to work at the same time as Martinez.
After matching identification, officers returned Martinez’s wallet and, miraculously, the $4,000 was still inside.
Martinez told NBC in Spanish that there are still honest people out there and that he was very grateful to the woman and the police for helping him.
