His writers talk about almost being replaced

During a recent interview, the writers of Deadpool 3, Rhett Reese y Paul Wernickwho also wrote the first two installments of the trilogy, reacted to Marvel Studios’ original plan to replace them with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin from Bob’s Burgers.

Reese acknowledged that it happened, but shared that they are now happy to be back creating fun stuff for their much-loved Merc with a Mouth franchise.

Yes, that happened. And look, it just happened the way it did, but we’re glad to be back, it’s the most important thing. We just couldn’t be happier where we are right now in the lab of mad scientists creating fun stuff and hopefully getting a movie out of them soon.

The screenwriter went on to share his determination to make it great. Reese called the third part of the franchise a marriage between Fox and Disney, promising to merge the two worlds.

We want to make it great. We’re in the lab working on it with Ryan Reynolds all the time, and we’re having a lot of fun. So hopefully that will translate and ultimately entertain the world. But you know, it’s a marriage between Fox and Disney, and they’re two different universes, and it’s not easy. But it’s also a wonderful challenge and, you know, high-class problem to be able to merge those worlds. So, we are enjoying it.

Following this, the interviewer questioned whether the R nature of the franchise or the mutant nature of Deadpool were factors in the film’s delay. Reese said “yes and no,” but promised that Disney is going to let the character be himself.

I mean, yes and no. Obviously, it’s like they’re two completely different regimens, right? So, they are two different bureaucracies. It was Fox, all these different people, and now it’s not those people anymore. It’s these Disney people and these people do things their way. And we were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the best thing is that Marvel has been incredibly supportive. They’re going to let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It could be that in a joke they say, ‘You know, that goes too far’, that could happen, but up to this point, it has been nothing more than supportive.

Speaking about the support that Disney and Marvel Studios have offered, Reese promised that they have been eager to help, make their lives easier, and offer MCU content for their use.

It’s been nothing more than, ‘How can we help you?’ What of our universe would you like to use? How can we make your life easier? And we’re going to let Deadpool be Deadpool. We’re not… This is not going to be Disney’s Deadpool.’ So they’re great, and now it’s up to us to go ahead and justify that faith.

Reese concluded by reaffirming earlier statements that Deadpool 3 It will be rated R since Disney won’t be changing the tone, but there’s a small chance that will change.

Oh absolutely. They won’t mess with the tone. I mean, I would never say never, I guess there’s an outside possibility, but we’ve always been told that it can be rated R, and we’re proceeding as if it’s R. We’d like it to be R. It’s always been that way, so I don’t think that change.
