Zweers was active as a volunteer on all kinds of fronts, such as with the Hardenbergse Ziekenomroep, the Gramsberger Omroep Stichting (local radio) and the Oranjevereniging. He was also involved in setting up company volleyball in the large hall of the village hall and the ensuing establishment of the De Zwaluwen volleyball club.
