In his opening speech, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi stressed that transforming resources into wealth cannot be achieved except with the triangle of natural resources, qualified human resources, and advanced technology. His Highness reviewed pioneering models from history and the present about investing these resources to achieve food security, and indicating the importance of encouraging… Economic and administrative thinking in the exploitation of natural resources.
His Highness said: “We are here to discuss, dialogue, and shed light on ideas and dialogues that crystallized over the past years, from which many ideas were generated that turned into facts, and to review solutions, and ask: How can we transform resources into wealth on the ground?” God Almighty did not create this earth without making its resources sufficient for those who live in it. The answer to this question is threefold: a natural resource, a qualified human resource, and advanced technology //.
He added: “In ancient Egypt, in a town called Thebes, its people were anticipating a possible famine that might last for years and affect their main source of food, as the wheat crop was decreasing. Therefore, the king at that time sought help from an expert human resource in his work, and he developed a precise and precise plan, from which a conclusion emerged.” Thought to invent new techniques to preserve wheat for the famine years. Here people wondered: Why so many grain silos? What is the benefit of preserving wheat in its ears? Why this innovative method? The answer was there: famine will prevail, others will seek help from us, and we will save them from our stock. Here economic and administrative genius emerges in transforming resources into wealth. I think some of you realize that I am talking about Joseph, peace be upon him //.
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi pointed to Sharjah as a pioneering model in investing in wheat as a natural resource. It is one of the oldest agricultural crops known to mankind, the second largest grain crop on Earth, and a major source of food for more than half of the world’s population. He said: “We are the same in Sharjah. We sensed this danger, so His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, launched the food security project, and started it with wheat farms, where he chose the best spot in the heart of the desert, and conducted dozens of scientific experiments to choose the best type of wheat suitable for agriculture, and solve the problem. Water by linking the soil to satellites that give orders to irrigate as needed. On the twentieth of March of this year, we ate the first loaf of seed, harvest, and bread in Sharjah, and work is underway on projects that achieve the desired food security so that we move from the circle of need to the circle of sufficiency for us and for future generations //.
