His friend, the tree: Ex-Brexit whip Farage is now spitting green tones

The best-hated Briton of all Brussels Eurocrats, one of the most conspicuous and controversial members of the EU Parliament for two decades, is now involved in a Dutch reforestation company that aims to fight the greenhouse effect with three trillion newly planted trees by 2030.

Farage now wants to unite

On the advisory board of Dutch Green Business, a company listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange, Nigel Farage wants to ensure that this goal is achieved. He told the British newspaper “Daily Express”: “I want this project to become a unity-building topic that promotes the preservation of the rainforest through afforestation.” In recent years, the western world has been affected by sharp disputes over Brexit and Ex- US President Donald Trump has been divided. “Can’t we unite to address the issue of global forest loss?”

These are surprising new tones from a notorious polarizer who supported Trump in the election campaign to the final triumph with ruthless energy running Brexit and insulting the EU leaders by the dozen. First with the UKIP and then with the Brexit party, Farage had tirelessly drummed for Britain’s exit from the EU, scrambled voters behind him and put the island’s political establishment under pressure.

His last speech in the EU Parliament ended in a scandal

In the EU Parliament, to which he has been a member since 1999, the eloquent Briton became notorious among his critics for his scandalous appearances as a demagogue. He certified the former EU Council President Herman van Rompuy that he was endowed with the charisma of a “damp rag”. He accused Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, newly elected in 2012, of having previously behaved “anti-British down to the fingertips”.

Farage outraged the members of the European Parliament by claiming that most of them had never had a proper job. His last speech in the European Parliament ended in a complete scandal at the beginning of 2020. The chairman simply turned off the microphone for him after wishing the EU to end it.

Mockery of Prince Charles

Now Farage speaks of a new beginning, for the entire planet, realistically, without end-of-the-world drama and very positively: “This ‘We-will-all-die’ story is negative – and we are doing something positive.” Farage turns thus against drastic warnings like those of the climate protection activist Greta Thunberg, which he rejects as “alarmism”.

The preferred aim of his ridicule in this context was the environmental policy commitment of the British heir to the throne, Prince Charles. Farage still makes fun of the fact that Charles once predicted the disappearance of the polar ice when he appeared in the European Parliament: “Still there, as far as I know.” The late Queen Mum once described Farage as an “overweight, chain-smoking gin drinker” . He wished the Queen herself a long life so that her son “Charlie Boy” would not take the throne so quickly.

Nigel Farage, the “headline machine”

Actually, they had been prepared not to hear too much from Farage in the foreseeable future. At the beginning of March he gave up his party leadership. But he had announced that he would not retire and pursue new projects. The man keeps his word. It remains to be seen whether the environmental service providers from Dutch Green Business have brought a figure on board in person.

In any case, Farage has already attracted attention – he is a specialist for that. It is precisely this quality that the Amsterdam Tree Friends appreciate, who praised him as a “headline machine” and one of the most influential politicians of the past 20 years. Farage himself, who will celebrate his 57th birthday on April 3, asserted in the “Daily Express”: “I supported green ideas even before the Green Party was born.”

The newspaper dedicated a double page with a portrait shot as a nature boy in front of the idyllic countryside to the early career. The article that Farage shared on Twitter appeared in the April 2, 2021 issue, which is probably not an April Fool’s joke. Dutch Green Business has also confirmed Farage’s appointment.
