Eric Adams wrote on Twitter that his dream would come true. The 61-year-old Democrat and ex-cop becomes mayor of New York City. He is very proud to represent the city “that we all love” as elected mayor. In his election victory speech, Adams said there was a need to move forward and that New York City would never be the same.
The greatest challenges are the recovery after the corona pandemic, in which around 30,000 people died in New York, and the reform of the police, the New York Police Department (NYPD), to prevent racist incidents in the future.
Previously, Adams was mayor of the New York borough of Brooklyn. He grew up with six siblings in Brooklyn, among other places.
Since New York is traditionally run by Democrats, Eric Adams’ election was already considered certain in advance.
