Certainly few would expect to be robbed of their mobile phones at the airport metaldetector in front of all the security officers who are doing baggage checks. Yet it seems to be what happened last Friday to Marco Di Simone’s son at the Caselle airport. According to Di Simone, the son had to board for the 18.20 flight to Catania. Arriving at the airport’s metal detector, he placed the trolley, backpack and iPhone in the appropriate containers on the conveyor belt before passing through the magnetic arc. However, he had to go back to take off a bracelet. Once he went back through the metal detector, he realized that there was no longer a mobile phone in the containers. «With my mobile phone we were able to identify the position of my son’s – says Di Simone – It was near the Gates. However, not being able to access the passenger area, we could not help but resign ourselves and after 15 minutes the cell phone was switched off ».
The theft was reported to police who are now viewing security footage to try to locate the reckless thief. “There was no traffic of people such as to justify such a lack and oversight on the part of the surveillance staff,” says Di Simone.
