Despite being short, Gennaro Gattuso’s time as coach of Naples – between 2019 and 2021 – left an impression (and in what way) on some players. This is the case of Hirving Lozano, a Mexican international who does not hide the nightmare he lived under the orders of the former midfielder and now Italian coach.
“He didn’t know me and he didn’t know where [em que posição] he played, but he never asked me anything. When you’re a footballer, there are moments when you say ‘ok, things aren’t going well here’. When he arrives he starts changing players [para o onze]but he never did it to me”, began by saying Lozano, 28 years old, on the program ‘Hugo Sánchez Presenta’.
And he added: “It was a terrible year, I cried in despair with my wife. You realize that you are better than many of those there and you ask yourself ‘why don’t they give me a chance?’. It took a lot for me to work in dialogues, but then he started talking to me more. He didn’t know me, in the first year we didn’t exchange a single word. Then he started talking more and in the second year the technical team started talking to me more”, he concluded.
It should be noted that Hirving Lozano ended up leaving Naples in September this year to head to the Netherlands, to PSV. Gattuso, on the other hand, is the current coach of Marseille. By Record
