Hip Hop. Family Tree Vol. 4

Ed Piskor
Flow Press
The archaeological saga created by Ed Piskor on the birth of Hip Hop is, for the moment, coming to an end. After three exquisite volumes, Piskor closes this epic drawn with surgical precision by narrating with his particular drawing what happened between 1984 and 1985.

Period that supposed the emergence of new figures such as Salt N ‘Pepa, Dr. Dre, Will Smith, Jazzy Jazz and the consolidation of the entire constellation of creators who have been presented in the previous volumes and whose lives orbit around popular implantation of this new style among American society (Beastie Boys go on tour as Madonna’s opening act) of growing cultural, social and economic change and that will actively contemplate the emergence of this type of music that emerges from deeply disadvantaged areas and in a short time they will prevail in each and every one of the social strata.

What is interesting about Piskor’s work, in addition to its characteristic drawing, is its eagerness to relate the seminal period of this movement that has shaken the foundations of the music industry to this day.

Drafting: Juan A. Ruiz-Valdepeñas
