Sprint world champion Hinze secured the jersey of the overall leader in the Sprint Champions League, which was awarded for the first time after winning the sprint and a second place in the keirin. After the first of the five stations, Stefan Bötticher from Chemnitz is in second place in the overall standings thanks to a win on the day in the Keirin.
In a purely German sprint final, Hinze prevailed against three-time Roubaix world champion Lea Sophie Friedrich. Previously, the 24-year-old had finished second in the Keirin tournament behind Olympic champion Kelsey Mitchel from Canada. Lea Friedrich, who won the European and world championship titles in this discipline in October, came fourth. In the overall Champions League sprint standings, the 21-year-old is third.
Bötticher took fourth place in the sprint tournament. In the Keirin final, the 29-year-old was even able to leave the most recently dominant Dutch behind him and surprisingly take the day’s victory. In the overall standings, the ex-world champion is second behind the Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen.
In the overall ranking, Maximilian Levy from Cottbus is 15th on his short comeback. Levy, who 14 years ago won the first of his ten World Championship medals with bronze in the Palma Arena, returned to the wooden oval for the Champions League despite his retirement in September . The 34-year-old had no chance at the start of the series with 13th place in the sprint and the preliminary end in the Keirin.
