Although the concert of the leader of the legendary Finnish group “HIM” Willa Valo in the concert hall “Palladium” will take place only on April 16, 80% of the tickets for it have already been sold out.
The leader of the gothic rock group “HIM” Ville Valo will perform in Riga as part of the concert tour of his latest album “Neon Noir”. The record celebrates its one-year anniversary, having been released on January 13th of last year, and is the charismatic musician’s first original work since the breakup of his iconic band HIM in 2017.
The album “Neon Noir” reached the top of many music charts – first place in Finland, high fourth place in Germany and elsewhere. Although Ville Valo’s new album, released under the pseudonym “VV”, is the first solo record in the musician’s more than 30-year career, it still remains in his usual “love metal” style of music and is very reminiscent of the “HIM” days.
“The new records really sound like ‘HIM’,” admits Ville Valo himself. “I did write most of the band’s songs, so… It’s my fault, yeah. This is like a never-ending journey for me. Others, turning to a solo career, want, so to speak, to burn all bridges with the past, to distance themselves from it. I don’t have it. VV – this is me, building a bridge between “HIM” and the future. That’s what ‘Neon Noir’ is.”
It should be reminded that the group “HIM” existed from 1991 to 2017, it has also performed several times in Latvia. On his album “Neon Noir”, Ville explores new aspects of gothic rock, combining his 80’s idols with David Lynch and 60’s folk rock, thus trying to find the golden middle between “Depeche Mode” and “Black Sabbath”.
In 2023, Ville Valo gave more than a hundred “Neon Noir” concerts in Europe, North and South America. This year, another 30 shows are planned in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, ending the concert tour at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. It is planned that on April 16, at the concert in Riga, both the compositions of the new solo album and the compositions of the well-known, legendary group “HIM” will be heard.
