Hikers freed from gorge after storm in Austria | Abroad

In Carinthia, the 47-year-old Belgian and his 16-year-old daughter were surprised on Saturday evening by the rapidly rising water in the gorge of the Pirkachklamm. They sent out a distress call and the rescue team found the two around midnight, severely hypothermic and completely drenched. The holidaymakers, dressed in shorts and T-shirts, were led down a path into the valley.

There were problems in several places in the country. In Styria, for example, roads had to be closed after mudslides. Rain, hail and gale force winds have led to flooding in Lower Austria.
