The dog of Cristoph Menacher, the 58-year-old German hiker missing for fifteen days on the east face of Monte Rosa in the area of Capanna Marinelli, a bivouac at an altitude of 3,036 metres, in the municipal area of Macugnaga (Verbano-Cusio- Ossola).
The dog was identified by Aosta Valley mountain rescue technicians during a flyover, requested by colleagues of the Valdossola delegation, with a helicopter equipped with ‘Reccò equipment, capable of finding signals of any electronic equipment. The searches for the man have so far yielded no results but the rescuers, starting from the traces left by the dog’s paws in the snow, believe that the man may have fallen into a cliff.
The frightened animal has been fed but does not allow itself to be approached. To capture it and bring it back to the valley, a provincial police guard is reaching the area who, with a rifle equipped with anaesthetic, will put the dog to sleep. Once the animal is recovered, the area will be fought.
