Hiker falls and hits head, rescued at night

(ANSA) – AOSTA, 31 AUG – He hit his head in a fall during an excursion and, due to the trauma, told his mother over the phone that he didn’t know where he was, except to remember that he was on a high route and that he had seen a sign (perhaps a signpost) with the direction for Lillianes. A 46-year-old man was rescued this morning at 6 by rescuers. After the alert, a team made up of personnel from the Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue team, the Guardia di Finanza Alpine Rescue team and firefighters immediately set off by land to follow the paths of high route number 1. Shortly before 5, the hiker managed to send his position over the phone. Since it was a wooded and inaccessible area and it was not possible to intervene with a night flight (because it was a ‘red zone’), they waited for the right time for recovery by helicopter. The man was entrusted to the care of medical personnel and taken to hospital for the necessary diagnostic tests. (ANSA).
