Hiker Falls 40 Meters After Rockfall on Unmarked Trail in Spital am Pyhrn

The man fell headfirst 40 meters over steep terrain as a result of the impact. The seriously injured man was flown to the hospital.

A 60-year-old was hit on the shoulder by a rockfall on Saturday morning while hiking in Spital am Pyhrn (Kirchdorf district) and then fell more than 40 meters. He suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to the Pyhrn Eisenwurzen Klinikum Kirchdorf with the emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 14, the police reported.

Together with a 44-year-old, the local went on a hike early in the morning along an unmarked Jägersteig to the so-called Seespitz. The two men reached their destination around 9 a.m. On the way back about 200 meters below the summit, the stone suddenly hit the 60-year-old.

Companion rushed to help

Due to the force of the impact, he fell headlong about 40 meters through steep rock and pine terrain. His companion was right behind him and rushed to help. He set the rescue chain in motion. The seriously injured man was rescued by rope rescue.
