The co-spokesperson for Más Madrid at the Madrid City Council, Marta Higueras, announced on Saturday her disengagement from the municipal party for its political reconstruction and has indicated that she will continue to work with Más Madrid since “independence”.
Plus Madrid, which after the departure of Manuela Carmena maintains a double spokesperson with Higueras and Rita Maestre, had planned to have held the congress to decide its direction and approve statutes in May, but it was delayed until June due to the coronavirus pandemic. Until now, Higueras did count on participating in the development of the formation that managed to be the most voted list in the municipal elections, although it did not serve to form a government. “My personal position is that it is an open platform, not a traditional party to use,” he said in an interview with this newspaper in March.
Higueras shared a text on your Twitter account in which he points out that the initial vocation of Más Madrid “was not to become a political party”. However, she does not disassociate herself from her position as councilor: “Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to participate in institutional politics and I have always done so from an independent, non-partisan, non-apolitical profile. I want to convey my decision to continue working like this in the municipal group Más Madrid ”.
“I am convinced that the new policy is more outside than within the political parties, and that they are not the only, or sometimes the best, option for citizens to regain confidence in our democratic and institutional system.” And he has reiterated that he believes in “other forms of doing politics” with a “transversal, participative and democratic” organization where “differences add up”. “With this belief I will continue working in the municipal group, regardless of the construction of the party,” he reiterated.
Jesús Santos is emerging as the new coordinator of Podemos Community of Madrid
The current spokesman for the manager of the Podemos Community of Madrid, Jesús Santos, second deputy mayor of the municipality of Alcorcón, is emerging as the new coordinator of the party at the regional level after the deadline for submitting nominations closed this Thursday.
Isabel Serra, spokesperson for the party in the regional Assembly, announced on Thursday afternoon her support for the candidacy launched last Sunday by Jesús Santos, thus clearing her career in the regional primaries, whose voting will take place between 12 and on June 17 and the results will be known on the 19 of the same month.
In this way, the second deputy mayor of Alcorcón is emerging as the new leader of the party at the regional level, a position that has been vacant since the Secretary General-elect, Ramón Espinar, resigned in the midst of the internal storm generated by the split of Iñigo Errejón to launch Más Madrid.
Santos, leader of the formation in Alcorcón since 2015, was one of the exceptions in the electoral debacle that the party suffered in the elections of May last year, achieving in Alcorcón a better result than in 2015, which allowed the left to recover the Local government. In addition to being the spokesperson for Unidos Podemos in Alcorcón, Santos holds the position of councilor for City Services and president of the Municipal Services Company (Esmasa), an entity that is in charge of cleaning and collecting waste from the town and where Santos himself was working before his jump to politics in 2015.
