Highway A4 from Katowice to Krakow for free? The minister gives hope

In 2027, the concession for the section of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow expires; We would like this section to be free for motorists – said Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk. He added that the plan involves expanding this route with an additional lane.

The head of the infrastructure ministry, guest of Polsat News on Thursday, when asked if the government wanted to introduce additional taxes on existing highways, assured that there were no such plans.

There are no such plans on these existing highways. Let me remind you that taxes are managed by the finance minister. Toll exemption often allows a large part of the traffic to be transferred on a stretch of motorway from parallel roads Adamczyk said.

He added that calls for the abolition of tolls on the section of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. Remember that the concession to use this highway expires in 2027.

I am convinced (…) that this highway will again be a highway operated by GDDKiA i we would like this section between Katowice and Krakow to be a free section of the motorway – he said.

The head of the infrastructure ministry added that there are plans to expand this route with an additional traffic lane in each direction. This would make it possible to accumulate traffic, collect it from the parallel roads (to the A4 – ed), where there are enormous traffic problems he underlined.

The motorway concessionaire is Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska (SAM). In July of this year the tariffs for using the Katowice-Krakow route were increased from PLN 24 to PLN 26 for passenger cars. For trucks, prices have increased from 70 PLN to 80 PLN. GDDKiA did not agree with the concessionaire’s decision.
