After a 13-year wait, Remedy will finally release a sequel to the Alan Wake franchise, continuing the story that fans have been waiting for.

With the release of Alan Wake 2 approaching, scheduled for October 27, some gaming publications have already managed to get acquainted with part of the game and published their preliminary reviews, which you can see below.

Eurogamer — Overall, Alan Wake 2 made a good impression on me. As Alan, I experienced a desperate sense of isolation, the need to continue to pursue my main, often illusory goal, while clinging to every thread of sanity. At the same time, like Saga, I wanted to believe in her dedication to her work and desire to get to the bottom of the truth as she walked through the wet and turbulent Wateri. The game may not be named after her, but there is no doubt that this is as much the story of Saga as it is of our titular writer. Remedy set out to make a sequel that would cement its place in the survival horror genre, and from what we could see, it succeeded.

IGN — It’s hard to say why I liked Alan Wake 2 so much. I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll say this: it probably all starts with the plot, since there are much more opportunities for storytelling here than in most games in the survival horror genre. The fact that the player is actively involved in shaping this story, connecting clues on the board and rewriting reality, as Alan does, only deepens my attachment to the world of Wake and, indeed, to his fate. Fantastic graphics certainly don’t hurt, and the eerie atmosphere and unusual tone, combining horror, drama and the occasional absurd comedy, make Alan Wake 2 completely unique.

GamesRadar — The two chapters of Alan Wake 2 that I played were specifically chosen to give the impression that: a) it was still Alan Wake in tone, atmosphere and story, and b) the game was not afraid to take risks. This is a bold new direction for Remedy that will be surprising and thought-provoking, and to me that means there’s exciting things to come not only in the Alan Wake franchise, but also in the Remedy Connected Universe that’s being created.

MP1ST “This is perhaps the best version of Alan Wake 2, thanks in large part to the lessons learned from developing other Remedy games such as Quantum Break and Control.” Alan Wake 2 could very well be the perfect scary and amazing game. Some of its puzzles will keep the player stranded for a while, and in a single-player game that’s part of the appeal. Get ready for the amazing, mysterious encounters that only Remedy knows how to create.

GameDeveloper While Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s big attempt to revive the series, it also ties into Remedy’s plans to create a combined universe with Control and its upcoming sequel. However, Remedy is aiming for this big Alan Wake return to be good enough on its own. Alan Wake 2, with its more focused horror approach and emphasis on story, feels like Remedy Entertainment’s most polished and experimental project since the success of Control. This approach could be exactly what the long-dormant series needs to make a comeback.

And the Game Informer portal published on its Youtube channel fourteen minutes of gameplay from Alan Wake 2, which shows the exploration of the Oceanview Hotel.

Alan Wake II will be released on October 27, 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
