The Ghent Festivities are in full swing. Yesterday, no fewer than 205,000 partygoers descended on the city centre. In total, the milestone of 1 million visitors has already been reached this year. There is again a mass of people on their feet in Ghent’s city center. The Korenmarkt had to be closed for the performance of Gustaph, our Belgian Eurovision Song Contest entry. But PoléPolé also became full and had to be closed, and it was no longer possible to enter Sint-Baafsplein from the side of Limburgstraat. Experience the 180th Ghent Festivities from the front row in our live blog.

So many people that aid workers seem ‘surrounded’

The fact that it is busy at the Gentse Feesten has become more than clear in recent days. Sometimes it really is over the head. This makes it difficult for the emergency services to act quickly and adequately. That is why the Ghent police are calling.

Since 1973, the Guild of Noose Carriers has annually commemorated the humiliation by Emperor Charles with its Tour during the Gentse Feesten. No longer afraid, but with stubborn pride, the noose carriers repeat the penitential march of May 3, 1540. So first there is a booing:

And then a round of applause for the noose bearers:

Over the years, the Tour of the Guild of Noose Carriers has grown into an attraction that attracts thousands of spectators. The Rondgang is therefore one of the highlights of the Gentse Feesten. Highly recommended!
